Text Box: According to Benjamin Franklin, “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” He left out change, in the sense that nothing ever remains stable in the hands of humans. Change is the guiding force for our department. A cohort of faculty is moving off of the demographic charts. Baer, Hackett, and Pierson have retired and Donnelly, Murphy, and Normann have announced their intentions. These factors, as well as the advent of James Crawford, M.D., PhD., who is in his fifth year of Chairmanship, makes for an exciting time for our department. Combined with the influx of new faculty and residents, the direction and philosophy of the Department have undergone significant and challenging changes. If you are within striking distance of Gainesville, I urge you to visit us. Examine the new facilities and chat with faculty new and old. If not now, as a minimum, be certain to mark you calendars for Resident Research Day in the spring, a great opportunity to meet the residents and to bring yourself up to date with what is going on in our specialty. Last year’s son et lumiere by Dr. Coco was one of the most entertaining ever!
