Neuropathology Fellowship
Description:
This accredited program provides up to two years of training in neuropathology, with the aim of Board certification and preparation for a career in academic neuropathology. Under supervision, trainees are responsible for primary diagnosis of all neurosurgical, muscle and nerve biopsies, as well as the brain, spinal cord, nerve, and muscle removed at autopsy. Trainees participate in daily sign-out of cases and in brain-cutting conferences held twice weekly, and the weekly neurosurgical pathology and neuropathology CPC conferences. They are expected to participate in continuing or original research activities and will train in immunocytochemical, electron microscopic, enzyme histochemical and molecular biological techniques used in neuropathology. Opportunities for research are enriched by the broad clinical and investigative interactions between the Unit and the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuroscience and the McKnight Brain Institute. Participation in medical student and housestaff teaching is expected.
