Fine Needle Aspirates (FNAS)
Experience in performing FNAs is gained through various routes. When residents are on a surgical pathology service, they practice doing FNAs on fresh surgical specimens. They also perform touch preps. While on autopsy service, residents have the opportunity to practice performing FNA's. At our department's FNA clinic, the residents, under the direction of Dr. Massoll and the cytopathology fellow, participate in FNA procedures, on-site adequacy evaluation and preliminary diagnosis while on the cytopathology service.
