Cytopathology Fellowship

Description:

The ACGME-accredited cytopathology fellowship program is a one-year comprehensive program in cytopathology, offered by the Department of Pathology, beginning July 1. The fellowship provides the opportunity for advanced training and experience in all areas of cytopathology. The program includes medical and gynecological pathology, including fine-needle aspiration cytology and experience with ultrasound guided thyroid FNA. We currently review over 4,000 medical specimens, (including approximately 1,300 FNA's) and numerous thin layer and conventional Pap tests per year. Emphasis is placed on correlation of surgical and cytopathology findings. The program can be tailored to the fellow's individual interests to include an intensive overview of cytopathology and concentration in one or more specialty areas. The fellowship faculty includes four pathologists with American Board of Pathology added qualification in Cytopathology. The fellow is expected to participate in related interdepartmental conferences. Opportunity and support are provided for research activity in the course of the fellowship program. Molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, cytometry, as well as other anatomic pathology facilities are available for the study of cytopathology related issues. Lecture series, comprehensive teaching conferences and computerized library and record retrieval are available for the fellowship program.
