Autopsy/Forensic Experience
Over 200 autopsies are performed per year at both Shands and Malcom Randall Veteran's Hospital. During their first and second year of training, residents cover the autopsy service a total of 4-5 months and on average perform over 60 autopsies. Additionally, residents rotate weekend autopsy coverage. The residents gain forensic pathology experience by rotating at Jacksonville's and/or Gainesville's Medical Examiner's offices. Typically, this required elective rotation is taken in their 3rd year of training.
