Instructions for Obtaining MiceThe Colony is open for processing orders during normal university business hours. We do not fill orders on holidays. Once an order is placed we try to fill it within 24 hours. When placing an order, use the Search for Mice Available for Purchase option to find the right mouse for your research needs. This search will default to finding all mice available in the system, but filtering down to what you really want by supplying the desired strain, age, sex or any other information will make finding the mice you need easier. When selecting by age, be sure you are entering days and not weeks. Also if you do not find any mice available for the age you need, try expanding the date range. Younger mice can be placed in the holding room until they are the proper age. If the search returns no results then we do not have mice that match that particular selection. Placing an order for mice that we don't have will not magically make them appear. Should you have questions on how to use the search, please contact us and we will be happy to help. On occassion we offer excess stock at a reduced price. These animals are listed on the Excess Stock page. Once you know what mice you wish to order, select Mouse Order Request Form and answer all questions on the first section. Then complete an order section for each group of mice of the same strain that you are ordering. Please include the cage number of the animals to allow for faster service. If you order mice with just a range of days and no cage number it takes longer for us to fill your order. Cage numbers are available when you search the colony database. All orders must have the investigator's correct protocol number. Orders placed with expired or incorrect numbers will not be filled. We will attempt to contact the person placing rejected orders as time permits. Copies of your current approval letter should be submitted to the Colony when you receive it so the protocol can be added into the colony system. Please double check your animal order before you submit it and make sure everything is correct. Mistakes in orders already sent will result in you being charged a fee whether they are the correct sex or strain you wanted or not. If they have not been removed from the colony we will restock the mice for a special service fee, but your order could be delayed for another 24 hours. Please call to confirm that there is space in the experimental room before ordering mice to be moved to into the experimental room. We have very little space in this room so call before you order to check for availability of space. Beforing coming to pick up your animals, please call the Colony. Also if you are removing your animals from the experimental room please make sure you tell someone and give them the cage cards or write on the cage cards the date of sacrifice and leave in the file holder on the door. These cards are a very important part of the billing process and failure to leave the cards could lead to you being billed incorrectly. Instructions for Picking Up Mice from the Colony
