    Background

The Molecular Pathology Core (MPC) was established in Jan. 1, 2001, to provide basic and specialized histology and immunopathology support for research studies. Staff members provide a full range of services including sample harvesting and fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, and routine and special stains for paraffin and frozen samples. Other services include new antibody optimization, established immunohistochemistry/fluorescence assays, TUNEL, fluorescent in situ hybridization, microscopy (light, fluorescence, electron), image analysis, and whole slide imaging. The facility also provides tissue banking and pathology support for the JDRF nPOD program and other biorepository and tumor bank programs. Custom tissue microarrays are available for both rodent and human normal tissues or can be created from blocks provided by the researcher. Shared equipment available to Core users includes cassette printer, microtomes, cryostats, microscopes, and image analysis programs. Electron microscopy services are available through the College of Medicine EM Core and include complete performance of the technical procedures required to full training of personnel.

Services are provided to those who incorporate funding for staff and supplies as a Core facility in program grants or through individual user fees. The MPC provides support to several U.S. (UCLA, UCSF, UCSD, Harvard, Stanford, Duke, Miami, MI, MA), and international (Canada, England, and Italy) institutions, Center for Disease Control (Florida Central Pathology Lab), and private companies. For preclincial (GLP) or clinical research projects (CLIA), please contact Ann Fu or Amy Wright.

The Core is a member of ISBER
