    Background

The Molecular Pathology Core and Immunology Core (MPC) was established in November, 2000, to provide basic and specialized pathology support to Department of Pathology, Immunology, and Laboratory Medicine faculty and their collaborators. The Core is located on the 11th floor of the Dental Tower and staff provide a full range of histology services including processing, embedding, sectioning, and routine and special staining for paraffin and frozen samples. Tissue microarrays are available as collaborative projects. Staff can also provide training and access to general use equipment (microtome, cryostat, microscope) for users. Immunopathology assays include antibody optimization, immunohistochemistry/fluorescence, fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), and TUNEL. Services are provided to those who incorporate funding for staff and supplies into grants or through nominal user fees. The MPC has provided support to several U.S. (UCLA, UCSF, UCSD, Harvard, Stanford, Duke, Miami, MI, MA), and international (Canada, England, and Italy) universities, the Center for Disease Control, and private industry.
