The Molecular Pathology Core (MPC) was established in November, 2000, to support research conducted by faculty
in the Department of Pathology,
Immunology, and Laboratory Medicine and their collaborators for studies in which
histopathology and immunopathology play a critical role. Services are provided to those who program grant support for the Core and as fee-for-service. In addition to UF, the MPC has provided support to investigators at The Jackson Labs, UCLA, Harvard, Stanford, Duke, University of Miami and Michigan, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, University of Alberta, Canada, and those in industry.
In addition to extensive histology capabilities, Core staff has expertise in molecular analyses of tissues and cells, including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and FISH/ISH. We have a superb record of optimizing procedures for immunodetection of various antigens in human, mouse, and rat including immunophenotyping (B and T cells, macrophages). Core staff can also work up new procedures with investigators. The MPC provides a major educational function for investigators in the following:
On-site education in necropsy, tissue grossing and trimming, histology, histochemistry, immunolocalization, in situ hybridization, direct and fluorescence microscopy, morphological interpretation, and image analysis.
Consultation in project design and interpretation of pathology findings.
