The Molecular Pathology Core (MPC) was established in November, 2000, to support research conducted by faculty
in the Department of Pathology,
Immunology, and Laboratory Medicine and their collaborators for studies in which
histopathology and immunopathology play a critical role. Services are provided to those who provide grant support to the Core or as fee-for-service. In addition to UF, the MPC has provided support to investigators at The Jackson Labs, University of California (LA, SF, SD), Harvard, Stanford, Duke, Universities (Alberta, Canada; Miami, FL, MI, MA), Memorial Sloan-Kettering, and industry (AGTC).
Good Lab Practice (GLP) histopathology procedures were established in conjunction with the National
Gene Vector Laboratories Toxicology Center at UF and are available as fee-for-service.
In addition to extensive histology capabilities, Core staff has expertise in molecular analyses of tissues and cells, including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and FISH/ISH. We have a superb record in immunophenotyping assays for human, mouse, and rat and develop new procedures in collaboration with investigators and their staff. Staff have a major educational role by providing on-site education in rodent and large animal necropsy, tissue grossing and trimming, histology, histochemistry, immunolocalization, in situ hybridization, direct and fluorescence microscopy, morphological interpretation, and image analysis. Consultation in project design and interpretation of pathology findings are also available.
