Currently Involved In:

Mr. Phipps is a staff Pathologist's Assistant in Surgical Pathology at UF PathLabs (formerly the Diagnostic Reference Laboratory [DRL]) within the UF Department of Pathology. His duties include providing gross descriptions and dissections of surgical pathology specimens, submitting samples for microscopic evaluation, photographing specimens, performing frozen sections, and submitting samples for special studies. He participates in developing new specimen protocols, maintaining CAP lab certification, and sits on various lab committees. He also participates in teaching and training Pathology Residents, Fellows and medical students to perform surgical pathology dissections.

On the national level, Mr. Phipps is a charter member of the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants (AAPA) where he has served as an officer, committee chair, and a member of the Board of Trustees for more than 25 years. During this tenure, Mr. Phipps played leading roles in both the establishment of an accreditation process for PA training programs through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) and the establishment of a certification process for individual Pathologist's Assistants through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Mr. Phipps currently serves as the AAPA representative to the NAACLS Board, is the NAACLS Board President-Elect (starting a 2 year term as President in September 2011), a member of the NAACLS Executive Committee and Finance Committee, and Chairman of the Bylaws Committee. He also sits on the Site Visit Process Committee of NAACLS.
