Gastrointestinal Pathology and Hepatopathology

Our mission is to provide rapid and high-quality pathologic diagnoses related to diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, and pancreas. Evaluation of biopsies obtained at endoscopy plays a critical role in the management of digestive disorders, including Barrett esophagus, gastritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and neoplasms of the gut. Management of most liver diseases is heavily influenced by evaluation of liver biopsies, including hepatitis, biliary tract disorders, and the post-transplant liver. Biopsy evaluation of biliary tract or pancreatic tissue, obtained during endoscopic retrograde pancreatocystography, percutaneous biopsy, or by other approaches, is particularly important when malignancy is of concern. Lastly, surgical removal of alimentary tract specimens gives opportunity for definitive pathologic evaluation of all disorders affecting these organs.
