(07/23/2008)
The text interpretation portion of FISH reports have been restructured to place the bolded "normalcy or abnormalcy" statement on the initial line of text, followed by a text description of the type of abnormality, if present.

CAUTION: All readers should read the detailed characterization portion of the text for abnormals, to ensure adequate understanding of the type of abnormalities detected, as a variety of abnormality types are possible for any single probe system employed (i.e., fusion products, structural changes, and/or copy number changes).

FISH reports will continue to include all other elements as required and/or recommended by CAP and ABMG (i.e., FISH nomenclature (ISCN 2005), cell percentages, limitation statements, recommendations, etc.)

Notes: If you have any questions, regarding reports, please feel free to contact the laboratory at (352) 265-9900.

(04/07/2008)
Beginning 04/14/2008, the format for cytogenetic laboratory reports will begin a transition to a PowerPath format.   Reports may be directly available (online) to those with PowerPath access.   Please note that a new accessioning number format for cytogenetic laboratory reports will be designated with an RCS prefix, followed by the year, and specimen number (eg. RCS-08-0215).

Notes: Although the new format of cytogenetic reports will reflect a number of stylistic changes, the overall content (i.e., use of ISCN 2005, interpretation notes, etc.) will not change. If you have any questions, regarding the reporting format change, please feel free to contact the laboratory at (352) 265-9900.

(12/29/2005)
Effective January 1, 2006, the use of ISCN (1995) nomenclature will be discontinued for all clinical laboratory reports issued from the UF Cytogenetics Laboratory.

Notes: All nomenclature used in the cytogenetic diagnoses and FISH diagnoses fields in future laboratory reports will conform to the current International System for Human Cytogenetic Nomenclature (2005), as required per C.A.P. (see CYG.32100). A summary of results in a text narrative will continue to be provided with all ISCN nomenclature presented in laboratory reports (see CYG.32071).
