My research interest focuses in the area of development of strategies utilizing stem cells as a source for engineered pancreatic -cells and stimulation of islets regeneration for therapy of diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by a deficit in beta cell mass and currently with no cure. The most attractive therapeutic approaches for the treatment of diabetes are the induction of stem and/or adult cells into insulin producing cells as alternative sources of beta cells and promotion of endogenous islet regeneration.
