Hematopathology

The Diagnostic Hematopathology Service is dedicated exclusively to the analysis and interpretation of hematologic neoplasia and related disorders. All traditional and relevant modern diagnostic technologies are available, including histology, cytology, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, cytogenetics and molecular genetics. The division's hematopathology consult service reviews over 2000 cases a year, submitted by pathologists and oncologists from the U.S. and other countries.

Full-time physician hematopathologists cover the service on a 24/7 availability with special arrangements being made for urgent off-hours and weekend consultation on cases. The Director of the Service has over 30 years experience in Hematopathology, flow cytometry and other laboratory diagnostic methods. Associated pathologists have at least 3 years of full-time comprehensive Hematopathology training.

We offer expert hematopathology consultation on fresh surgical specimens, histologic slides, blocks and fresh tissue samples, including blood and bone marrow. Most specimens can be studied using cytogenetics and fluorescent in-situ hybridization (F.I.S.H.) and molecular diagnostics when indicated.

A one-year hematopathology fellowship is available.
