Experimental Pathology
The Experimental Pathology (EP) division is a diverse group of investigators studying the mechanisms of diseases. The division is currently comprised of 30 faculty members, who mentor 11 postdoctoral fellows, 3 pre-doctoral fellows and 21 Graduate Students affiliated with the COM IDP.
Their research covers 6 overlapping areas:
- Immunology/Autoimmunity
- Emerging Pathogens
- Stem Cells
- Nephrolithiasis
- Cancer
- Liver Pathobiology

The EPIG grants have been awarded. There were 9 awards out of 11 submissions. There were 4 grants awarded at $5,000 each, 5 grants awarded at $4,000 each and 2 grants not awarded.

Congratulations to Li Yin for obtaining two FL-CFAR Developmental Core Seed Awards in the Fall 2008 Competition. As a PI his project title was "Development and Application of Bioinformatics Algorithm to Study HIV-1 Env V1N2 Length Quasispecies and Their evolution.” As a Co-PI his project title was “Defective Immunoglobulin Somatic Hypermutation Results in Pneumococcal Vaccination Hypo responsiveness in HIV Infected Children”.

Congratulations to Dan Perry for receiving a scholarship to the Keystone Symposia meeting titled, "TH17 Cells in Health and Disease". The meeting will be held Feb 5 - Feb 10, 2009, in Vancouver.

Congratulations to Matthew Parker for successfully defending his thesis titled, "Reversal of Overt Type I Diabetes in the NOD Mouse Through the Use of Combination Therapy." Matthew joined IDP in the fall of 2004 and is mentored by Dr. Mark Atkinson.
