Clinical Chemistry
The mission of the clinical chemistry section is to provide expert and timely advice in the selection and interpretation of laboratory tests used in the assessment of health and the diagnosis and management of disease.
The faculty have expertise in instrument selection, quality control and quality assurance, laboratory statistics and the concepts of quality management. Clinical interests of the faculty include diabetes, lipids, endocrinology and novel biomarkers of disease. Among other activities, the faculty are responsible for interpreting serum, urine and CSF electrophoreses and immunofixation electrophoreses and HIV-1 western blots.
The faculty interpret serum protein electrophoresis, immunofixation electrophoresis and hemoglobin electrophoresis for Cognoscenti Health Institute in Orlando, Florida. Members of the section have NIH-funded research and participate in the national activities of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
